In Performance Test 1, Team F tested two designs depicted above. The designs were very similar; the glaring difference being Design 1 having one motor facing the opposite direction. The reason this design was tested was because in motor configuration, it was found that propellers pulling the vehicle are more powerful and energy efficient than when pushing. Having a motor face either way allows the vehicle to always be pulling and pushing equally when traveling in any direction.
In Performance Test 1, the vehicle had to travel to the gate, stop for 7 seconds for the gate to open, and then move through the gate. The codes for this test can be found in “Codes for All Experiments” under the Codes tab under Team F. Below are the results recorded from the trials.
In testing, Design 1 used 62.336 Joules to complete the task while Design 2 used 55.043 Joules. Design 2 also completed the task faster than design 1. This made design 2 the obvious choice to continue as the final design of the AEV.
