Council of Graduate Students 2024-2025 Officer Applications Now Open

Any current graduate student in good standing may apply for these officerships, regardless of whether or not they have been involved with CGS previously. Applications for the election are now open, and will be accepted until Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.

Benefits for the Presidency and Vice Presidency include a 50% GA position (at the minimum stipend). All listed officerships are eligible to use a CGS-owned parking pass for CGS business during their terms of office.

2024 EHE Research Forum: Registration Open

We have scheduled three oral presentation sessions and three poster sessions, featuring over 100 projects!  We will also be serving lunch. Our lunch keynote speaker this year is Dr. Dorinda Gallant, Associate Professor of Quantitative Research, Evaluation and Measurement in the Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education and Human Ecology, and the Director and co-PI of The Ohio Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.

Register for the event, even if you are only able to stay part of the day – although we hope that you will plan on staying the entire day!

2024 Graduate Faculty Mentorship Award Nominations are now open

For this award, students are asked to write a nomination letter describing the mentorship they received from faculty. In the nomination letter, they can share impactful mentoring stories, describe how their mentor helped them feel a sense of belonging, empowered them to upskill their future resiliency, or supported networking for their future growth and employment opportunities. Nominations are accepted from February 1-29, 2024.

Nominations are accepted from presently enrolled graduate and professional students or from alumni of any of your graduate programs. Nominating a graduate faculty member for the GFMA is a great way for students and alumni to recognize their faculty mentor’s contributions to their academic and professional development.

Work with lab managers, professors, or site supervisors can all necessitate different approaches. This simplified workshop will provide an overview to some best practices, as well as common pitfalls to avoid.

Hosted by the Ohio Union Activities Board. Many graduate students will confront the challenges associated with course design: either as a graduate student instructor, while preparing materials for the academic job market, or in their early career post-graduation. This semester, in Graduate Teaching Toolkit, the Drake Institute’s workshop series for graduate instructors, we’ll explore each step of the course design process. Toolkit workshops are designed to support participants’ professional development, engage them in reflecting on, discussing, and sharing their teaching practices, and build community between graduate instructors on campus who are passionate about improving their teaching. All graduate students, regardless of teaching experience, are welcome to attend.
