2021 Broiler Pool Letter & Order Form

As in the past, exhibitors need to purchase their broilers through this pool to exhibit at the 2021 Knox County Junior Fair.

Please read the following information carefully and respond by FRIDAY, APRIL 23 by 5 p.m. with the enclosed order form. Orders received after this date will not be filled and the exhibitor will not be eligible to enter the broiler class.

Chicks may be ordered in any lot size. The fair exhibit must be three pool birds per exhibitor.

The cost per chick will be $2.00. Pick up for these chicks will be WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2 from 1 – 6 p.m. at the Ramser 4-H Activity Center. If the hours or location are not convenient for you, please plan for someone else to pick up your chicks. Chicks will be all cockerels for this pool.

Be prepared by having a carrying container with some material in the bottom so the chicks do not slide around. You should also have your housing location prepared with feed, water and a heat source ready to receive the birds.

2021 Knox County Turkey Pool Information

Once again, this year we will be doing a turkey pool for all turkey exhibitors. All exhibitors will need to purchase their poults through the pool to show at the 2021 Knox County Junior Fair. We feel this will benefit the exhibitors with all of them starting on a level playing field.

The turkey poults will need to be purchased by Friday, February 12 by 5 p.m. with the enclosed order form. You will have to purchase at least four per exhibitor but can order more if you wish. If we do not receive your orders by that date you will not be eligible to show turkeys at the 2021 Knox County Junior Fair. Each poult will cost $6.00. Ohio National Poultry Show is Virtual for 2020

This year’s Ohio National Poultry Show, the largest poultry show in the nation, has gone virtual! This gives open and junior exhibitors a new way to compete and still be a part of the Ohio National. Information, including the catalog, can be found on their website at www.ohionational.org and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheOhioNational.

The entry deadline is Saturday, October 17, with Class Champions announced Saturday, November 14 and the Show Champion announced Sunday, November 15. Show awards will be mailed the week after announcing the champions. There is no cost to enter.

Poultry 4-H SPIN Club

We invite youth ages 8-18 to learn about all things poultry! Sessions will cover breeds, basic knowledge, housing, equipment, handing, showmanship, common health concerns, biosecurity, and nutrition. We will take a virtual field trip, learn about careers, and marketing in the poultry industry. The club will meet Mondays and Wednesdays starting on Monday, June 8^th – Wednesday, July 1^st at 1pm. The cost is free and location is from the comfort of your own home/computer. To register go to go.osu.edu/poultrySPINreg. Once registered, participants will receive a zoom link for the sessions. Space is limited, and there is no time to waste!

2020 Youth Poultry Clinic

The 2020 Youth Poultry Clinic will be held Saturday, April 18, at OSU ATI, Wooster. The postmark deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 1. The cost for the clinic is $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for youth. Registration material is available at: https://ohio4h.org/events/youth-poultry-clinic-0

Tentative topics are: Necropsy, Processing/Meats, Exhibition Poultry, Digestion/Nutrition, OPA/Careers, Youth Quality Assurance, Broilers A-Z, Laying Hens/Eggs, and a Question/Answer Corner.

Refreshments and lunch are included in the registration fee. Vendors will be present.

2019 Junior Fair Poultry Ambassador

We are seeking 4-H/ FFA members that are 13 years old or older that are participating in poultry projects at the 2019 Knox County Junior Fair. The Poultry Ambassador will be a male or female 4-H/ FFA member in good standing with the 4-H/FFA program. This person will be responsible for representing the poultry species during the Knox County Junior Fair. During the Knox County Fair, the Poultry Ambassador will be required to attend the Market Poultry Show on Monday July 22, 2019 and the Poultry Production Show/Showmanship, on Tuesday July 23, 2019. Lastly, the Poultry Ambassador will be required to be available during the Junior Fair Sale on Thursday July 25, 2019.

On the poultry show days the Ambassador will be in attendance to help set up for the shows and to give the 4-H/FFA members their awards and be available to have their picture taken with the Grand and Reserve Champions.

The responsibilities during Junior Fair Sale Day will be to have their picture taken with the Grand and Reserve Champions (broilers and turkeys). The Ambassador is required to help serve the buyers at the Buyers’ Luncheon; you will need to report to the Multi-Purpose Building by 10:45 a.m.

The Poultry Ambassador will conduct themselves as an upstanding citizen of Knox County. This person will be expected to be neat and appropriately dressed for each event.

Please submit form to the Knox County OSU Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. on July 10, 2019. Interviews will be conducted on Friday, July 12, 2019 starting at 3:00 p.m.
