The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks applications for an assistant professor tenure-track position in Science Education K-12 beginning August 2023.
Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates with strong credentials in science education with a minimum of three years teaching science full-time (for any grade levels 6 through 12); equivalent background to qualify for a Wisconsin license to teach Science grades 4 – 12; an earned doctorate in science education or equivalent; and an established record of scholarly productivity, or a demonstrated potential with a well-developed research agenda. ABD candidates may apply, but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2023; if not, the successful candidate will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2024 in advance of their first scheduled review.
Responsibilities:
The faculty member in this 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position will be responsible for research, service, teaching, supervising, and advising. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate science methods courses (preparing teacher candidates to teach science in grades K-12), supervising field experiences, advising undergraduate and graduate students, coordinating the science education licensure program, and working directly with area schools to coordinate science teaching activities as part of course experiences. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of modalities and formats, including in-person, online, hybrid, with courses potentially scheduled in evenings, weekends, and at off-campus sites.
Research responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a research agenda related to science education. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the department, college, and university levels, and participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.
