Responsibilities:

• Teach at the graduate level, including social studies methods, integrated curriculum course, and student teaching seminars
• Support students using assessment systems.
• Engage in faculty governance, attend meetings, and serve on committees, particularly the Educator Licensure Advisory Council (ELAC).

Appointment at the Assistant Professor of Practice rank is anticipated; however, higher rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The Assistant Professor of Practice engages in the professional community of K-12 education, delivers courses, and supports development of courses that model the use of current research in K-12 education and the learning sciences, with particular attention to issues of equity, social justice, and inclusive teaching practices. OSU’s College of Education teacher education programs are designed to prepare excellent elementary and secondary school teachers who are ready to meet the needs and build on the assets of linguistically and culturally diverse students.

The Assistant Professor of Practice is responsible for teaching, professional intellectual engagement, and service through developing curriculum and teaching courses and providing intellectual leadership in the Pre-Teaching, Education, and Teaching majors. Education and Teaching programs are offered both in-person at the beautiful Corvallis campus as well as through our top 10 online platform, Ecampus. More than half of course instruction will be delivered in-person on the Corvallis Campus with some opportunity for online course delivery as needed.

The position carries the expectation of engagement in applied research that supports continued programmatic innovation and reform. However, the 10% budgeted time for scholarly work and research, it is not designed for a scholar who wishes to devote significant time to research and publishing and does not carry an expectation of robust publication or independent pursuit of extramural funding.

Job Overview

On a part-time, limited basis, the Adjunct Faculty member’s primary academic functions include teaching college reading and/or academic study and learning strategies. This may include creating curricula or teaching from model curricula provided by the department.

Part-time faculty must have experience and training to provide course instruction in Reading, Literacy, and/or Developmental Education.

Adjunct faculty members will be expected to (1) use our course management system (Canvas) and any textbook-specific systems; (2) hold regular office hours to meet with students and reply to student communications in a timely manner; (3) participate in at least one professional development workshop per year.
