Responsibilities
Prepare for class starts by ensuring assigned sections are free from error, all due dates are set appropriately, digital materials are accessible, and course(s) is paired correctly with any 3rd party tools; follow approved syllabi and curriculum/course outline as provided by the College; keep informed of current standards related to instructional area; teach assigned course(s); present material in an engaging and positive fashion; maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning; respond to student communication and provide constructive and robust feedback in a timely manner based on rubrics provided; support student success; evaluate student progress; reach out to students who are struggling or are high-risk; supplement student material when needed; refer students to appropriate college sources for information on counseling and other student services; maintain student records and grades; post grades within the prescribed deadlines and adhere to and meet all established university and accreditation (SACSCOC) instructional policies, guidelines and standards.

The Department of Teacher Education at Texas Woman’s University (TWU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Curriculum and Instruction Education. Positions are expected to begin in August 2023.

The position is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track appointment. Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field. Must be well-versed in the foundations and methodologies of Curriculum and Instruction education and have a minimum of 3 years of public-school teaching experience at the K-12 level. The successful candidate must have a teaching, scholarship, and service record appropriate for the rank (described below). The successful candidate must have appreciation for a multidisciplinary environment and commitment to inclusive excellence.

Faculty will be expected to:

  • Serve as a core faculty member in the department of Teacher Education and the Curriculum and Instruction program.
  • Have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate EDUC courses using different instructional modes (F2F, hybrid, online) as needed.
  • Have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in other programs within the Department of Teacher Education (i.e., Bilingual/ESL Education, Special Education, and/or Educational Leadership) as appropriate.
  • Have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
  • Provide direct mentoring as a university field supervisor (as needed) for our certification candidates.
  • Work with department colleagues to plan curriculum, align courses to state and national standards, and ensure that we meet the needs of our students efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop a program of externally funded research.
  • Disseminate research findings in academic journals and academic conferences.
  • Demonstrate intellectual contributions linked to diversity, inclusion and/or inclusive excellence.

Part-time Associate Faculty

The intent of the pools is to create a list of qualified applicants who are interested in teaching on a temporary part-time basis in various disciplines. Associate Faculty are employed by semester and may teach up to a maximum load of 33.5% per primary term.

The part-time college instructor is responsible for effective performance in the following areas:

A. General Scope of Responsibilities

  1. Excellence in teaching and instruction.
  2. Maintenance of professional growth and academic currency.

B. Teaching and Instruction – The following duties are representative of the kinds of expectations that are normally required of a part-time Butte College instructor. Certain duties are common to the everyday operational needs of the College while other activities may be required on an as needed basis. All of the duties, however, are common requirements at various times for full-time instructional positions.

  1. Plans for and is continually well prepared to teach.
  2. Provides organized delivery of instruction.
  3. Is courteous to and approachable by students.
  4. Instruction is consistent with the stated and approved goals and content of the course.
  5. Sticks to the subject matter of the course.
  6. Inspires students to engage in subject matter.
  7. Uses standards of student feedback that are clear, fair and followed consistently throughout the course.
  8. Requires levels of instructor and student effort sufficient to the mastery of the subject or skills in the course.
  9. Grades and returns student assignments and tests in a reasonable period of time.
  10. Makes effective use of teaching aids and materials required of students (e.g., texts, manuals, etc.).
  11. Prepares complete course outlines and syllabi.

  13. Coordinates with Department Chair to synchronize course contents and methods with other teachers in the program/discipline.
