Glenville State University is seeking a full-time applicant, tenure-track position or lecturer position in Education to further strengthen our active and growing Education program.  In addition to its rich history in the undergraduate preparation of pre-service teachers, GSU has recently added two master’s degrees in teaching and was named a state-approved educational option for alternative teacher certification for post-baccalaureate students.  Expertise in early education and literacy is desirable. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, advising students, participating in departmental and college service activities, involvement in recruitment and retention activities, and ongoing professional development. Individuals with interest or expertise in curriculum innovation as well as commitment to teaching and scholarly excellence in their specialties are encouraged to apply. Expertise in instructional technology is desirable.  The successful candidate would begin as early as January 2023, but not later than August 2023.

Examples of Duties

The successful candidate is expected to

  • Teach 24 – 30 hours of courses per academic year (split across fall and spring semesters) in pre-service education, including methods classes to teacher candidates seeking teacher licensure.
  • Supervise student interns/residents in public schools, as well as interface with public school partners.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Actively contribute to departmental and university assessment, committee, and service activities
  • Support recruitment and retention events and participate in professional development activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain teaching and professional excellence.
  • Assist with program reaccreditation efforts, serving as part of the CAEP accreditation team for the Teacher Education Department and education programs.
  • Evaluate, revise and recommend updates in curriculum to be in alignment with CAEP, content-related SPA, and state standards.
  • Develop and enrich community relationships.

The Child Language Ability Laboratory (PI: Dr. Monique T. Mills) at the University of Houston seeks a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the successful completion of an NIH grant examining dialect detection in school-age Black children, https://reporter.nih.gov/search/4WOTGphx0OKUA4mUUxl3Q/project-details/10597841. The project will involve eye-tracking data collection and analysis as well as behavioral studies employing norm-referenced testing and language sampling. The postdoctoral researcher’s responsibilities are to: design/develop studies; collect, manage, store, and analyze data; write manuscripts and proposals; present at conferences; and hone professional development skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Receives/Reviews progress and evaluates results of experiments or projects under control or supervisory responsibility.
  2. Recommends changes in research, testing or experimental procedures.
  3. May be responsible for a single highly technical and complex piece of research equipment.
  4. May review and evaluate the effectiveness of personnel.
  5. May plan for and assign personnel to projects under control.
  6. Operates with latitude for unreviewed action.
  7. May receive general supervision conferring with higher levels only in unusual situations.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as required.
