Assistant Professor of Elementary Literacy
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Department of Educational Studies seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with expertise in elementary literacy for a full-time tenure-track position, to begin as early as August 2023. The successful candidate will be a member of a diverse department that serves early childhood education, elementary/middle education, special education (K-12), and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL, K-12) programs.
We seek an educator and scholar who actively connects theory and practice in the classroom, advances the field of teacher education, and brings a current understanding of pedagogical best practices to their teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates should have knowledge of supporting teachers and students in the Science of Reading/Structured Literacy, including systematic, explicit evidence based emphasis in developing foundational skills and data driven literacy instruction. Ideal candidates will also have experience teaching courses with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse students, and bring a demonstrated passion for pursuing educational equity and social justice to their work as a teacher educator. UWL’s School of Education is committed to preparing globally responsive teachers who are grounded in a strong academic curriculum that is linked to world events, geography, world cultures, and diverse perspectives.
Courses taught will include, but are not limited to Foundations of Literacy (EDS 308) and Literacy Methods I and/or II (EDS 318, ECE 418).
Responsibilities include the following:
* Teaching courses related to foundational literacy skills that serve early childhood and elementary/middle education majors
* Supervising teacher candidates in student teaching experiences
* Pursuing an active program of scholarly inquiry
* Advising and mentoring teacher education students
* Engaging in service to the department, School of Education, university, community, and profession
