Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate literacy and ESOL courses in The Citadel’s M.Ed. in Literacy Education program (across face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses) with summer teaching possibilities, performing service for the Zucker Family School of Education, and engaging in scholarly research. The successful candidate will be an excellent instructor and a contributor to scholarship in the field of literacy and/or ESOL education. In addition, the successful candidate will support efforts to create innovative programming in partnership with P-12 schools and school districts throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The candidate should be willing to travel locally to provide onsite coursework to graduate student cohorts as needed. The Citadel’s M.Ed. in Literacy Education is one of only 5 programs in South Carolina recognized by the International Literacy Association for preparation of literacy teachers and coaches. Only 3% of Schools/Colleges of Education are led by Deans from literacy backgrounds. The Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KUCDD) is searching for an Assistant Research Professor to support implementation of research on self-determination interventions in secondary education and community contexts for people with disabilities. This position is located at the University of Kansas-Lawrence.

Under the supervision of the Director of KUCDD, the Assistant Research Professor will advance the research and training missions of KUCDD, with a particular focus on implementing and scaling up effective professional development related to self-determination interventions.  This position will work across projects to implement professional development, training, and coaching as part of existing and future grant funded projects as well as contracts with state departments and school districts. The position will conduct research on the most effective professional development, training, and coaching and support materials development related to implementing best practices and advancing self-determination research. The position will also author or co-author scientific papers or other dissemination products for presentation and publication and supervise other staff and students implementing training and coaching. A wide range of research projects and contracts will be supported by the position, including:

  • Large-scale training and coaching for self-determination interventions to support youth and young adults to engage in goal setting, action planning, and self-evaluation activities
  • Community-based research with young adults and adults with intellectual and development disabilities to support decision making, self-determination, and employment
  • Research focused on supporting and scaling up the implementation of evidence-based interventions, aligned with the tenets of implementation science

The position may also teach courses or engage in ongoing technical assistance for in-service education for disability professionals, including teachers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and interest in disability, self-determination, transition and/or community-based participatory research.
