The Reading Education and Special Education Department in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University seeks qualified candidates to fill two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in the Reading Education Program.

We are seeking applicants who have expertise in teaching and an active research agenda to join our collaborative team. The successful applicants will be appointed to a full-time nine-month position to begin August 2023 with the possibility of summer teaching.

Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)

Expertise in at least two of the following:

  • Early reading development and instruction.
  • Elementary literacy development and instruction.
  • Equitable and inclusive approaches to K-6 literacy instruction and assessment.
  • Literacy teacher education

The duties include teaching, research, and service. Specifically, faculty will:

  • Actively engage in the work of equity, justice, and inclusion across university and educational settings;
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in person and online at on- and off-campus sites;
  • Teach, mentor, and collaborate with preservice teacher candidates, in-service teachers, and doctoral students;
  • Actively engage in scholarly work;
  • Engage in service to the program, department, college, university, and profession;
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the program, department, and university;
  • Actively engage with teachers and students in laboratory school settings;
  • Serve on and chair doctoral committees;
  • Advise graduate students.
