Assistant Professor in Literacy and Language Education (K-6 Elementary Literacy Emphasis)

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University seeks an assistant professor of literacy and
language education with expertise in K-6 elementary reading development, writing, and literacy learning. This
position is a 9-month, tenure-track position with a starting date of August 15, 2022. Responsibilities include:
● Teaching undergraduate courses as part of the elementary education program as well as graduate literacy
and language courses
● Working collaboratively with program and college faculty to revise current courses and field experiences
with a focus on improving educational outcomes, integrating critical literacies, and promoting educational
equity
● Coordinating and collaborating in the development of school-based practica
● Recruiting, advising and mentoring graduate students
● Collaborating on learning, discovery, and engagement activities (including seeking external funding to
support those activities) within the College of Education, across the university, and with K-6 schools
● Developing a strong area of research and scholarship that informs theory and effective practice in literacy
education
● Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice in education through scholarship,
teaching, and/or engagement
