Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

The Department of Education at Mercyhurst University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Education starting in August 2021. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in an Education-related field is required, with an emphasis on Reading/Literacy preferred. Successful candidates will not only show past experience in PreK-12 settings, but also successful teaching at the undergraduate level.

Applicants should have a strong commitment to high quality teaching and diversity. Applicants must show potential for leadership, scholarship, and collegial collaboration with faculty in an innovative department and school. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate Early Childhood education courses, working with professional partners, engaging with student professional development opportunities, academic advising, and supervising clinical experiences, including embedded field experiences.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Early Childhood (ECED) Literacy area, primarily ECED 40302 (Appropriate Phonics), ECED 30201 (Languages and Literacies), ECED 40403 (Developing a Balanced Literacy Program in the Elementary Years), and ECED 40402 (Developmental Reading and Writing). In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong record of teaching and connection with local schools; participating in program and school committees and relevant professional organizations.
