OSU/Red Cross Blood Drive

September 22, 2017

This was my first blood drive that I’ve ever done, and it was quite an experience. The main purpose of this service was to increase awareness about the blood drives occurring on campus. This was done by publicizing the event to people walking through the campus. Another aspect of this service was to facilitate the actual drive itself; this was done by helping people check in and passing out snacks. Specifically, I helped check people in and recruit people to donate blood at the blood drive.

I believe that this was a great experience. It was interesting to see how these drives work and how much time and effort actually goes into running one of these drives. It was really difficult to get people to come donate their blood, but we managed to exceed our goal, which is fantastic. If given the opportunity, I would definitely volunteer at a blood drive again.

Here are some of the metrics from the drive:

Goal: 23 units

Actual Collected: 25 units

Donors Registered: 33

Deferrals: 7

Patients that these donations could help save: 75 lives
