G.O.A.L.S Reflection

Global Awareness:Honors students will examine what it means to be global citizens and will cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. Students will examine the world’s complex, interdependent systems, as well as their own cultural backgrounds.

How I have done this:

  • By participating in different cultural and diversity events around me in Columbus, becoming aware of the different people and their thoughts, values, and cultures.
  • By traveling abroad to see the different cultures of the world and their ways of life.

Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.

How I have done this:

  • I have become involved in research opportunities around me, gaining contact with many advisors.
  • I am a research assistant at the Haver Eye and Ear Clinic, working on the ABLE project, which investigated the neurocognitive developmental differences between hard-of-hearing children and normal hearing children.
  • I have worked with another advisor on a research literature review in involving the use of artificial technology in cardiology and how the field expects to expand its usage in the future.

Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.

How I have done this:

  • By taking honors courses when applicable and taking courses that are truly pushing me to become a better student.
  • By extending the knowledge I gain from lectures beyond the class, applying it to the world around me.
  • By participating in academic clubs that suit my interest.

Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

How I have done this:

  • I am the vice-president of Hindi Club at OSU.
  • I am planning on starting a mindfulness organization with a colleague.
  • I plan on becoming involved in Buckeyethon leadership.

Service Engagement:Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.

How I have done this:

  • I volunteer at the Hospice of Central Ohio, Mt. Carmel East, Scientific Thinkers, and Buckeyethon.
  • I am also planning on volunteering at a food kitchen or a homeless center starting Summer 2019.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio.
