Netiquette and group projects for students

Netiquette is extremely important for students and should be taken into consideration for all of the online interactions that many courses use. Not only online courses use online communication between students and teachers. Emails and blog posts should be written professionally and clearly even if the teacher does not respond similarly. Good netiquette is important to build a positive online relationship. This includes first impressions, clearly stated questions, comments, and concerns, and avoiding misunderstandings. First impressions are important because it can set the mood of the rest of the course. Clearly stated questions are important because it avoids back and forth frustrated emailing. It is also important to include a file name on any attachments, not wait until the last minute, and try to get to know your classmates.

For group projects or assignments it is important to be prepared, ask questions, set up live chat times, pay attention, and participate as much as you can to contribute your part. While live chatting or even chatting through email it is especially important to avoid any hassles such as a poor work environment, technical difficulties that could have been prevented, identify group roles and responsibilities, verify contact information, cite references, and follow through with the groups plan.
