Project Statement
The project “Checkmate” included the formation of chess pieces with a partner pertaining to a specific theme. For our chess pieces, we wanted to show the contrast between appearance and character. Using watercolor paper and acrylic paint, my partner and I created 3D forms similar to the classic chess pieces but with a contrasting element on the back of each. One of my goals for this project was to create a piece that tells a different story from every angle. My side of the board displays the traditional chess shapes on the front and forms depicting strength and integrity on the back.

Reflection
Overall, this project really challenged me in terms of form building. I struggled at the beginning trying to process how to translate my form from 2D to 3D. However, that struggle pushed me to prototype and ideate more to gain a better understanding. My partner and I had a very broad range of ideas as well, which proved to be difficult to narrow down, but I realize that having that problem shows growth. Instead of only focusing on one or two ideas, I brainstormed many, which created a better outcome.
