About

Hello All!

My name is Emily Ridinger, and I am a second-year student at The Ohio State University. During my first year at Ohio State, I studied business administration with a plan to study interior design in the upcoming years. I am also working towards a minor in business and real estate. Outside of the classroom, in high school, I was a four year member of choir, concert band, and musical theater. I also participated in district and county honors chorus. This year, I am an active member of The Salt Company, which a Christian-based club on campus. I am also a member of STEP, which is a program designed for second-year students to grow and gain new experiences at Ohio State.

Passions/Noteworthy Information

Throughout high school, I served on five mission trips, which developed my passion for serving others. I worked as an intern at my church for several years as well, in which I assisted with renovating the facility and planning for special events. In autumn of 2022 I look forward to being a leader for the Salt Company

In addition to my community involvement, I have always been drawn to art, specifically in the form of music. From an early age, I would sing and play songs because I could connect with them both physically and emotionally, which became one of my ways to find peace.

Meaning of Design

“The role of the designer is that of a good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests.” -Charles Eames

Inherently, design is a concoction of art, engineering, marketing, and communication. It is used to assist a consumer in a way that is efficient and aesthetic. To me, design is meant to better the lives of those around me. With my passion to serve others, design presents a great opportunity for me to do so, while also creating something unique to me.

Design Interests/Goals

When I think about design, I am overwhelmed with excitement about its endless possibilities. There is always a need to be met, and a new or improved design is often the answer. This year, I have been eager to learn about what makes a good design great and the process that goes into creating it. I have learned new techniques and aspects of design through this class. After my foundations year, I am looking to specialize in interior design. I grew up in a town with only 2,000 people which created a tight sense of community. I have seen first-hand the positive effects that small businesses can have on people, and I would love to use design to restore and create spaces where those businesses could thrive.
