Postdoctoral scholar position in Justin North Lab at The Ohio State University Department of Microbiology
Name of Organization: Justin North Lab in the Ohio State University Department of Microbiology
Positions Available: Postdoctoral scholar
Preferred Disciplines: biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and biomolecular engineering
URL: https://u.osu.edu/northlab/open-positions/
Description: Postdoctoral position in metabolic engineering of Clostridium cellulolyticum for conversion of lignocellulose to ethylene. The North Lab within the Department of Microbiology at The Ohio State University is looking for a motivated and talented Postdoctoral Scholar to join our diverse and dynamic team. The individual will work on a new federally funded project for the biological conversion of renewable lignocellulose to ethylene gas. Ethylene gas, primarily sourced from non-renewable fossil fuels, is the building block for nearly all plastics on earth. A biological means of ethylene synthesis is poised to supplement the ethylene industry, lowering CO2 emissions and fossil fuel dependency. This project is a combination of Clostridium cellulolyticum genetics, genetic engineering, and targeted metabolomics to engineer advanced ethylene synthesis in a cellulose degrading bacterium. Opportunities for collaborative bioinformatics, computational modeling, transcriptomics, and proteomics with other University and Department of Energy labs are also a key element of this position. The position is for two years with the possible for extension an additional year with a starting salary of $50,000. A Ph.D. in microbiology or related field and experience in microbial genetics is required.
