Wexner Center of Performing Arts

The Wexner Center of Performing Arts welcome party occurred on the 28th of September, and I attended it with my friend Bella. The event was based on bringing students together to celebrate the arts at the Ohio State. The walls were covered in works done by Ann Hamilton, Jenny Holzer, and Maya Lin. There were countless brightly colored essays done by Hamilton filling the inside of the building. I have never seen so many words concentrated in one place.

The arts are a large part of every culture. It is the way in which one can express themselves, and those innermost feelings that at times are hard to explain. Arts give a huge insight into the true lives of people in a certain community. The event related to IA because of its focus on the arts. Hamilton, Holzer, and Lin presented not only their own perspective, but also the perspective of their cultures and communities and how they relate to the world around them,

Personally, I have always loved the arts, especially singing, dancing, and drawing. Although this event did not necessarily adhere to those aspects of the arts, it was a nice reminder about the opportunities that are out there for me. Even though I am majoring in the Sciences, that does not instantly bind me to one specific path. The Wexner Center of Performing Arts is a place open for those who want to if not pursue, at least appreciate the arts as a whole.
