The new informatic and communication technologies bring about the gradual changes in a society. These new technologies have been transmitted to technological and social processes, which lead up to change of way of life. We are solving next problems:
- specifying of the state strategy of development of a society in conditions of the Slovak Republic
- specifying of the conception of the State Information System
- improving of a coordination and activities of the branches
The national programme of informatics was accepted in 1992. The legislative frame of the informatics development is defined by group of laws:
- the basic statute is no.261/1995 about the State Information System, which arrange conditions, engagement of the organs of state administration
- no.215/1995 about geodesy and cartography
- no.52/1998 about protection of personal data in informatic systems
- no.211/2000 about a free access to information
Competitions are defined by legislation. The financial security is not an adequate. Up to date has prepared reappreciation of competitions, integration of resources and aims of informatic projects. The standards and norms are implemented in harmonisation with CEN and ISO. In the field of geographical norms we took these norms:
STN CR 13425 geographical information – Overview
STN CR 13436 geographical information – Dictionary
STN P ENV 12009 geographical information – Reference model
STN P ENV 12160 geographical information – Spatial scheme
STN P ENV 12656 geographical information – Quality
STN P ENV 12657 geographical information – Metadata

The spatial infrastructure and the State Information System have moved a problem of coordination, data capture and distribution of geoinformation in the Slovak Republic. The Automated Information System of geodesy, cartography and cadastre is one of the State Information System. The system consist of three parts:
- the Information System of Geodetic Control
- the Information System of Cadaster of Real Estate
- the Basic Database of Geographic Information System
The instruction no.178/1996 secures obligated geodetic datums, spatial standards of the state map series and obligated standards of geographical names. The Instruction ( S 74.20.73.22.00) for Creation and Updating of the Basic Database GIS has two appendices: the catalog DIGEST of spatial objects with coding FACC and the structure of metadata.
