There are three main bodies dealing with standardization in a field of geoinformatics in the Czech Republic:

  1. Czech Standards Institute
  2. Czech Association for Geoinformation.
  3. Ministry of Informatics (MI CZ).

First and second body was described in the last year report. The third one is relatively new. Ministery of Informatics was established on 1st January 2003 as a successor of the former Office for Public Information Systems, but with much broader mandate and stronger power.

Among others this ministry deals with development of standards for public information systems, including public spatial data and metadata.

Standard for structure and transfer format of a metadata on geodata sets is the main metadata standard in our country now. The first version is effective from 2001 and the second one from 2002. It is based mainly on CEN standards and is used in the official public administration metainformation system about spatial data sets called MIDAS.

MI CZ starts to develop new, more general standard for metadata on all public data sets, which should be compliant with Dublin Core. The next step will be development of new spatial metadata standard based on ISO standards. Czech Association for Geoinformation will participate on its development.
