Annual updating of the descriptions in the national metadata service, Paikkatietohakemisto, available in http://www.nls.fi/ptk/aineistot/, has been performed. Further development of the service is waiting for the definition of the future metadata policy from a national council on geographic information issues, to be established in September 2001.

The ISO 19115 Committee Drafts have been commented. The main input for the work of ISO 211 has been on quality standards. A seminar giving an overview of ISO 19115 was organised for the Finnish GI community with three other seminars in a series introducing the work of ISO/TC 211 and OGC.

The Nordic Countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) hold a two day seminar on metadata in May in Copenhagen presenting the experiences of each country and discussing the potential cooperation in defining an ISO 19115 profile and sharing knowledge of metadata. A Nordic workshop on Metadata will be organised in October 2001 in Helsinki.
