Metadata
The Danish metadata service to be found on www.geodata-info.dk is alive and well. The service was founded almost ten years ago and has since the CEN 12657 ENv evolved, been based fairly strict on the concept of that standard.
It was planned to move the service to an ISO 19115 compliant environment during 2002, but this transition has been postponed due to cutbacks in funding and staff. Mapping from CEN to ISO was undertaken as a preparation and showed no overwhelming obstacles. As time elapse prior to completion, it seems that some of our burdens are lifted off by initiatives from other organizations such as the OGC. We might clean out benefit from lacking a moment behind this time.
Standards
As the ISO 19100 series of standards mature, their propagation into the geodata society are prepared thru information meetings held by the National Survey as well as by the Danish branch of ICA and ISPRS – Geoforum Danmark.
There has been Danish participation at the ISO/TC211 meetings in Lisbon, Portugal and Adelaide, Australia, but unfortunately not at the meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. The Danish delegation at the Lisbon and Adelaide meetings has at both occasions consisted of 2 persons. At the Lisbon and Adelaide meetings, the Danish participants have also been active members of editorial committees and project teams.
Nordic teamwork
There is an ongoing co-operation among the Nordic countries within the field of geographic information and standardisation. Among the things that have been achieved three items can be mentioned.
The first is the Joint Nordic Implementation Project; the project was a “proof of concept” project. The purpose of the project was to verify that the ISO/TC211 standards and proposed standard where implementable and that they fulfil the requirement of being a workable and useful set of standards (for more information see http://www.statkart.no/standard/jnip).
The second is at the annual GI-Norden GIS conference in 2001 there has been held a workshop where the ISO/TC211 metadata standard was the subject. This workshop was a result of the co-operation among the Nordic countries.
Third: At GI-Norden GIS conference, this year there will also be a workshop, which also is a result of the co-operation among the Nordic countries the subject of this workshop will data modelling, XML and application schemas
