Reminder: Pesticide License Recertification and Classes Feb 6 (Day) and Feb 18 (Eve)
If you are a licensed private pesticide applicator and have yet to sign up for recertification classes please do so soon. Letters have been sent out with information to those due in 2025 and 2026. If for some reason these letters have not reached you please feel free to give us a call at 740-454-0144.
Please remember that pre-registration is expected. There is a $35.00 fee for the recertification class. Register and pay online or by check with the enclosed registration form 3 days prior to the session you will be attending. This fee is in addition to the $30.00 license fee that is paid separately to the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Winter Feeding Options for Beef Cows October 29 in Zanesville, 6:30 PM
Although hurricane Helene provided some much needed moisture across southern and eastern Ohio, drought conditions persist and impacts will linger through this coming winter. With severe drought from July through September hay inventories have been negatively impacted and many producers may find themselves short on forage for the winter and early spring.
Join OSU Extension field specialists Jason Hartschuh and Garth Ruff at one of four locations across southern and eastern Ohio as they address managing forage shortages due to drought.
Topics discussed will be alternative feeding strategies, comparison of feed ingredients, and managing cow herd inventory.
All programs start at 6:30 p.m. and there is no RSVP needed for any of the following locations:

Beef Quality Assurance on September 24: Farm Service Agency will be present to discuss drought assistance programs
A Beef Quality Assurance programs is scheduled for September 24, 2024 at Muskingum County Livestock Auction, 7:00 PM. A representative from the Muskingum/Morgan USDA Farm Service Agency will be present at this event to address drought-related assistance programs available to agricultural producers related to the ongoing regional drought.

Beef Cattle A.I. Workshop
OSU Extension Muskingum County will host an introduction to artificial insemination of beef cattle on July 30 and August 1, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the Extension Office in Zanesville. This two-night workshop is a classroom event starting on night one and concluding with hands-on-practice on night two. Topics that will be covered during this workshop include: Advanced Reproductive Tract Anatomy and Physiology, Estrous Synchronization, Pasture Considerations, Expected Progeny Differences (EPD’s), and, Tools, Equipment, & Techniques. Our program cost is $20 per person and RSVP’s are due July 25. Our classroom location is the meeting room at the Rural Services Building, 225 Underwood St, Zanesville, OH.
