Veterinary Feed Directive Resources

The Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) went into effect on January 1, 2017. According to the FDA, it is a “written (nonverbal) statement issued by a licensed veterinarian in the course of the veterinarian’s professional practice that orders the use of a VFD drug or combination VFD drug in or on an animal feed”.

Producers are required to maintain a Veterinary Client Patient Relationship and to have the written approval of a veterinarian before administering antibiotic drugs through feed.
