2024 Greenhouse Strawberry School collaborates with CropKing!

Greetings to all strawberry enthusiasts! We offered this course in May. This year, Mark Kroggel and I will provide updated 6 online lectures on basics of greenhouse soilless strawberry production. Live sessions are on May 3rd and registrations are required by May 2nd.

 

Online comprehensive learning of strawberry crop production under controlled environments (live lectures on May 3, 2024)

Live lectures will cover basics on strawberry physiology and production practices in greenhouses – topics include 1) cultivars, 2) transplants and flowering physiology, 3) crop schedule, 4) nutrient solution and rootzone management, 5) environmental conditions and benchmark yields, and 6) IPM and environmental disorders.

Live lectures are scheduled from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM ET (Part 1) and from 1:30PM to 4PM ET (Part 2) on May 3rd Friday. Students will be given additional three weeks (till May 24th) to access lecture recordings. Certifications of completion will be available upon your request. Course fee is $135 per person.

Optional hands-on workshop (May 6, 2024) at CropKing (Lodi, OH)

A separate registration is required for the CropKing hands-on greenhouse experience on May 6th from 10:00AM – 3:00PM ET. Participants will learn about and gain experience with leaf pruning, pollination, fruit load management, media composition, plant nutrition and pest/disease management. This workshop is held at the CropKing headquarters at 134 West Drive, Lodi OH 44254 and includes time in their research greenhouse, working with the plants and hydroponic systems. The workshop fee is $135 per person.

Greenhouse Strawberry School Online 2023 – 2nd offering

Our comprehensive online strawberry school will return again in September 2023!

We offered this course in May and it was a huge success!  There are a number of growers and professionals who missed this course in May requesting the offer one more time. If you already took this course, there is no need to take this again as we are using the same lectures.  The self-paced course will consist of previously recorded lectures covering basics on strawberry physiology and production practices in greenhouses. Students will be given two weeks (September 1-14th) to complete all six lectures and quizzes, followed by a live 2-hour discussion session with instructors on September 15th, 2023. A multiple QA sessions will be scheduled to accommodate your availability. There are also online discussion forums where you can post your questions or respond to others questions in the Scarlet course site. You will continue to have access to the course materials until September 30th, 2023. Certifications of completion will be available upon your request.

The course is most suitable for those who are new in controlled environment agriculture and interested in strawberry production under protected cultivation conditions. Invitation to Strawberry Café

We launched a new online café series for CEA strawberry enthusiasts “Strawberry Café”.

Strawberry Café is a monthly forum of information exchange for those who are currently experiencing strawberry production. We meet on last Thursday of the month (except holidays etc.).  We have been meeting every month since last October and hope to continue this until more local extension support becomes readily available in your area.  New industry sector like CEA berries needs to develop all together to be sustainable as the whole (producers, propagators, technology providers, retails and all). I hope this forum helps to develop a communication platform to move the whole new industry sector forward.

Strawberry Cafe – Monthly Online Forum

We are launching a new online café series for CEA strawberry enthusiasts.

The forum name is “Strawberry Café” and we will try to do so monthly on last Thursday of the month (except holidays etc.).

This forum will be good for those who are actually experiencing strawberry production and therefore information exchange is the main purpose of the forum.  We hope to develop a community so that we can all learn from each other.  For those who are new in CEA strawberry, this website will be good place to start.

The first one will be Oct 28th Thursday starting at 11AM Eastern.
