IMPACT Program Goals

High School and College-level Spanish

Students will complete their high school Spanish coursework.

Students will take advances Spanish and General Education (GE) courses through the Academy program at OSU.

Academic and Professional Mentoring

Bilingual physicians, scientists, and other professionals will come to Westland and Franklin Heights High Schools to discuss their careers.

Attend college and career development events with Latinx role models.

Medical Interpreter Training

The Community Interpreter medical interpreter training completed through the program with Dr. Glenn Martinez.

Completion of 40 volunteer hours at a local hospital.

Medical Interpreter Shadowing

In their second year, students will be matched with interpreters to develop a shadowing schedule.

Students will gain valuable hands-on experience in the field.

National Certification

After successfully completing all components of the program, each student will take the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) written and oral exams.
