With the current state of the world (the COVID-19 pandemic, political challenges, racial tension and more) how are you caring for others as a global leader?

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many people’s lives and so it is important to be mindful of others. It is critical to play your role in ensuring the safety of others, and I have done so by abiding by the mandates and taking my own precautions. As racial tensions have heightened, I feel it is critical to not only be educated about the injustices, but also to take action to address them, whether through protesting, donating, supporting POC businesses, and so on. And, while I’ve talked about racial tensions, there are many other social issues that need to be addressed, so it’s crucial to educate yourself on other topics that affect our communities as well.

What song/movie best represents your background and why?

3 Idiots is a Hindi film about three strangers who come together and learn about the world while dealing with their personal struggles. It’s my all-time favorite film and the one that most portrays who I am. It serves as a reminder that living in a fast-paced society, when life feels like a race, sometimes you have to reassure yourself, “All is well” and have faith in your aspirations.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see myself working in the legal field.

VP of Marketing:

Maggie Leneghan

Year: Junior

Major: International Business

Minor: Political Science

Project Group: Human Rights

With the current state of the world (the COVID-19 pandemic, political challenges, racial tension and more) how are you caring for others as a global leader?

I am doing regular virtual check-ins with friends and other people I know and have increased scheduled time to do calls. It’s important we all stay in touch and socialized so I want to help with that.

As a future leader, what does it mean, to you, to be globally-minded?

I think a globally-minded leader is someone who considers the backgrounds and cultures of all people involved in a situation and decision-making process and includes that knowledge in making decisions or understanding their peers.

Outside of global affairs, list something you are very passionate about and why?
I am very passionate about mental health resources and accommodations for those with disabilities. I am around communities of people who need these things regularly and my family is a part of both communities I have seen them struggle and want life to be easier.

With the current state of the world (the COVID-19 pandemic, political challenges, racial tension and more) how are you caring for others as a global leader?

In these isolating and tumultuous times, I try to show people I care for them by being present and genuinely checking on them. I aim to be welcoming and make others around me, whether it’s in-person or online, feel appreciated and supported through my actions.

As a future leader, what does it mean, to you, to be globally-minded?

Being globally-minded means being cognizant of your own viewpoint and perspective while considering other people. It really is about understanding, embracing, appreciating, and accommodating for differences in people’s background and circumstances

What song/movie best represents your background and why?
When I think of my background a main thing that comes to mind is my childhood. Growing up, my dad used to sing Brown Eyed Girl by Jimmy Buffet to me and we would sing the “la la la ti da” part together. To me, it represents a lot of the great memories I’ve had with my family and friends, including here at OSU.

Always be open to listening and approach things holistically but still from a place for kindness and empathy

How do you think GLI can contribute to your future professional career?

It’s been invigorating meeting so many people from different backgrounds and listening to their perspectives on a wide range of topics. It’s made me a better listener, as well as a better question-asker. In terms of my future career, I’m sure the connections I’ve made will prove invaluable.

What song/movie best represents your background and why?
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac as life is ephemeral and serendipitous.
