GLI’s Mission Statement
The Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) program is a prestigious year-long program designed to prepare Ohio State undergraduate students to foster global citizenship and to enhance their strengths in various cultural contexts in order to become a more successful future leader in the global community.
While international students try to make friends with domestic students but are not sure how to go about doing so, and domestic students do not always understand international students, founders Vickie Chen and Lanzi Li realized that there is a gap that needs closed between international and domestic students. This is when the two came up with the idea of the GLI, a cohort under The Office of International Affairs which consists of 12 domestic students and 12 international students at its first year in 2013-2014. GLI was formed so there can be student leaders who have the knowledge, leadership skills and resources on campus to encourage more people to become involved with these international relationships.
The overall goal of GLI is to develop friendship, leadership skills, great networking opportunities and a better understanding of the similarities and differences between cultures. GLI hopes to achieve this goal through a globalized campus, cultural awareness and a focus on career professionalism.
We have weekly meetings or monthly dinners on Mondays with various guests. If you are ever interested in GLI and would like to contact us, please email us at gli.oia.osu@gmail.com .
