Project Statement

This project was for an old project I did in my AP Literature class. The whole assignment was to explore a character from the book you chose a couple of weeks prior. I chose the book, The Color Purple, and specifically the character Nettie who is the main protagonist. I created prompts for the Google Assistant to respond to according to a script I wrote where I asked “Nettie” about what it was like to live the life she lived and how she’d react. I got to write in her vernacular and really go crazy with it. The other big surprise of the project was that I was actually using a Google Assistant that I made with a Raspberry Pi 3 and a speaker and mic setup!

Reflection

This was super fun getting to test how the Google Assistant responded to my questions and prompts and then working around it. For example, if I said “Hello, Google”, it could think I might’ve said, “yellow through glue”. I could watch the Google assistant respond in real-time and it tended to do that so I had to create like 10-15 different prompts per question. It took a while, but it was a blast to finally film it and get through the interview.
