Meeting Notes 02/16/17
The group met on this day to complete the lab activities in Lab 5. For the start of the lab, the students listened to the instructor’s presentation, which was mostly describing the difference between concept scoring and concept screening. In short, the team found that both types are useful for different types of projects. For simple and quick projects, concept screening is best used because it is an easy and simple way to look at the positives and negatives of different designs. For more in depth and robust projects, concept scoring is best used for its ability to look at the more important aspects of the project. It takes more into account than just positives and negatives, moreover how much each positive and negative matter. For the duration of the lab activity, the group tested one of the designs created in the previous lab, and compared it to that of the given example AEV vehicle. Multiple runs were tested, and for each run, important categories were taken into account for observation. The team used both concept scoring and concept screening to portray the advantages and disadvantages of both vehicles. Once the test runs were completed, the group input numbers into the screening and scoring matrices, which in turn output an overall score for the new design. The meeting ended at the conclusion of the lab which was around 2:45 pm.
