What is the Education Teaching and Learning Community?

Education Teaching and Learning Community is for Pre-majors or students majoring in Primary Education, Middle Childhood Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), World Language Education, STEM Education, Integrated Language Arts, and Integrated Social Studies that have been accepted to Ohio State Newark. This community offers social and academic support for new first‐year students while also providing an opportunity to engage in career focused experiential learning activities. These opportunities allow students in their first year to make connections with education professionals, see first hand the work being done in the field, and build a foundation for success in the program.

Benefits include:

  • Planned social and cultural events throughout the year to build connections and a support system with peers in the education major
  • Workshops to help facilitate learning and personal growth
  • Strong support system throughout the major and pre-major from education faculty
  • Taking major courses taken together as a cohort create unique learning environment and opportunities for students to fulfill education major requirements & connect with other education students
  • Students can receive a $200 scholarship if application is submitted by April 1st deadline

First-year students who identify as one of the majors and pre-majors listed below and have been accepted to Ohio State Newark.
