Exploration is the first step in the diamond commodity chain. Diamonds can be found around the world, but are most prevalent in Africa. The most common way to locate diamonds is by measuring magnetic field changes in the ground. These changes in magnetic field allow prospectors to accurately locate where diamonds are in the rocks. Diamonds are frequently found in a rock known as kimberlite.

  1. That’s a great summary! It’s wild to think we use magnetics to find them, especially since it’s actually the volcanic rock (the kimberlite) that gives off the signal, not the diamonds themselves. It’s basically a high-tech version of “hot or cold” played across entire continents.
