Locums

Quick Links

Locums are clinical based veterinarians who are hired to cover vacancies or long term (>2 weeks) absences.  Locums are not in place of lecturers. Departments must work through their department heads to request a locum.  Locums are not permitted to work until a signed letter of offer is received and they are licensed in the State of Ohio.  Contact your HR Consultant for more information.

Important Information for Locums

Payment:  On the last working day of the first month you perform services, you will receive an initial payment equal to one day of service.  Due to payroll processing procedures and deadlines, you receive any additional days worked, above the one initial day, on the last working day of the month following your assignment.  We are unable to initiate payment any sooner based on University payroll processing. For any month in which you do not provide services, you will not receive compensation.

Reporting Time Worked:  In order to verify actual days worked, you will be required to submit a timesheet via the HR Action Request form, to receive payment for those days in the month after the work has been performed.  For any month in which you do not provide services, you will not receive compensation.

Licensure Requirements: The Ohio Revised Code requires all Veterinarians within the College to hold a current Ohio license to practice veterinary medicine.  A limited license is sufficient for all individuals whose sole professional capacity is served within their college related duties.  This offer is contingent upon successful completion of the BCI/FBI background check (for licensure) and your eligibility to obtain and maintain the minimal state requirement of a limited license if you do not currently hold one.  Application details can be obtained from the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board website http://ovmlb.ohio.gov or by calling (614) 644-5281.  While department personnel will assist you with the application process, the timely submission of an application and payment of associated fees is the responsibility of the faculty member.
