To go along with the other social and environmental issues brought up earlier, there is more. Increasing drive and competition for increased output are impacting the environment in negative ways because of mono cropping and ‘sun cultivation’ methods becoming the norm. In Central Asia, 2.5 million acres of forest has been cleared for coffee farming. This deforestation is increasing in coffee growing countries. Out of 50 countries, 37 in the world with highest deforestation rates are major coffee producers as well (“Coffee and its Impact On People, Animals, and the Planet”).
