Language Teacher Training

The BuckLER Center provides training for international teachers of English as a second language and world/foreign languages on current practices in additional language instruction

Language teachers are continually expected to improve their skills and gain new knowledge.  Teacher professional development is one of our areas of expertise.

We design training and language educator development programs for teachers focusing on innovative pedagogical approaches in bilingual and CBI/CLIL instruction, linguistic and cultural immersion, and a reflective field experience in language programs in American schools.  Our on-campus programs may include living in dormitories on the OSU campus, visits to local schools in Central Ohio, cultural excursions to attractions in and around Columbus, Ohio, and more.  In this setting, program participants interact with various members of our community such as local teachers, graduate students and OSU faculty and staff.

Possible pedagogical topics for workshops or courses include, but not limited to:

  • Biliteracy and translanguaging pedagogy
  • Content and language integrated learning
  • Content-based instruction
  • English for EFL/ESL educators
  • ELT methods and techniques
  • Genre-based pedagogy
  • Leaderships skills
  • Principles and practices in CLT
  • Project based learning
  • Technology in language teaching
