The BuckLER Center is affiliated with the Multilingual Language Education (MLE) and Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP) in the Department of Teaching and Learning within the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University.
Leadership
Dr. Peter Sayer
Peter Sayer is a Professor of Multilingual Language Education. He has directed numerous language teacher education and research projects, especially in Mexico and Latin America. He was the lead researcher for the Mexican Ministry of Education on the program evaluation of the National English Program. He is a member of the Ohio Department of Education English Learner Advisory Board. He was a Fulbright Scholar (Mexico, 2011), and has led Fulbright-Hays Education Abroad programs to Mexico and Peru.
Dr. Ivan Stefano
Ivan Stefano is the Director of Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP) at OSU. His work focuses on helping international and multilingual students, scholars, and professionals with their English proficiency and cultural adjustment in the U.S. Prior to his current role, he was an Assistant Professor at a small liberal arts university, where he directed an English transition program and taught English language courses (reading/writing and listening/speaking). He was also a long-term board member of Ohio TESOL, an organization that supports English language learners in Ohio.
Dr. Francis Troyan
Francis Troyan is Professor of Multilingual Language Education. He coordinates undergraduate and graduate programs in world language education, as well as several initiatives at OSU with Fulbright Germany and the Institute for International Education, along with Dr. Sayer and Dr. Stefano. He has been a Fulbright Scholar to France (2018) and Colombia (2021-2022), where he studied and consulted on language teacher education.
