The first Advanced R&D topic Group a chose was testing motor configuration. Motor configurations were compared based on how much energy was consumed for each configuration of the motor. We tested four different configurations with three configurations for the vertical base prototype and one for the horizontal based prototype.
The first configuration for the vertical based was with both motors being placed on the Arduino side of the AEV with it consuming 64 Watts of power and making this graph.
The second configuration for the vertical based with the motors being located on the battery side of the base. It consumed 64 Watts of energy and created this graph.
The third configuration for the vertical based AEV was with a single motor on both the Arduino and battery side with both facing the same direction. It consumed 62 Watts of energy and created the this graph .
For the single horizontal configuration of the AEV the motors were place on the top of the AEV base. It consumed 62 Watts of energy and it created this graph.
In conclusion, it was found that when we hanged the base vertically the best configuration was putting a motor on both the Arduino and battery Side. Furthermore, it was found that the single horizontal configuration used almost the same amount of energy as the vertical configuration with the motors being located on both sides of the AEV.
The test code used can be found in by going to the group A page, Advanced R&D, then used code with it being under the section called ‘Test code used based on time’.
