2024 Scholarship Opportunity with OSBA

Attention all beekeeping 4-H’ers

Advisors: Please share with any youth in your clubs who are beekeepers!

Scholarship Information for 2024 Applicants

Ohio State Beekeepers Association supports new young beekeepers through our Youth Scholarship Program. We realize that the success of a new beekeeper is not reliant on the student’s work and money alone but on the partnership’s effort. Thus, the Youth Scholarship Program encourages the participation of parents/guardians, 4-H/FFA Ohio advisers, local Ohio associations, and mentors.  Recipients will receive the supplies for two hives, membership to the OSBA and more. Deadline to apply is Sept. 16.

The number of scholarships available per year will vary based on the number of available funds and donations. The number will be posted each year on the OSBA website. For 2024 there will be 10 scholarships available: 5 designated for 4-H and 5 designated for FFA

Livestock Sale Buyer Cards

Fair is just around the corner, time to get excited!

I want to let all market exhibitors know who will be participating in the sale this year that sale buyer photos are to be brought by the exhibitors similar to last year. You may turn them in at Skillathon Saturday, August 19th or they can be turned in to the extension office. They are due Monday September 4th at the latest and can be turned in at the barn meeting at that point. With that in mind, please note that the pictures given MUST be in the CORRECT Format. Pictures must be horizontal orientation as well as the child  MUST be dressed appropriately, keep in mind some buyers may hang their photos up in businesses or somewhere for all to see so dress your best! If they are not in correct format or not what has been specified below the pictures may be refused. Please see the photo attached below for what is expected for the photos.

This year kids will also be expected to pick up their photos during the sale to hand deliver to the buyers. This avoids the issues of buyers not checking out and not receiving their cards forcing them to be mailed and potentially still not being received.

If you have any questions please call the office! 740-962-4854

Cloverbud Day Camp Recap!

Cloverbud Day Camp has come and gone. All who attended had lots of fun visiting Camp Hervida for the day! Our theme this year was “All About 4-H” The youth got to experience what 4-H Camp is like while also learning more about 4-H!

The whole day was planned by our Older Youth in Training and Junior Leaders. They all did a great job!

Our rotations this year included a session learning about the 4-H pledge and motto, making a stepping stone, and decorating a clover shaped cookie.

A big thank you to our adult staff, camp counselors and older youth that all came out to help this day run smoothly.

Tractor Supply Thank You Video

Thank you for all of your support of the bi-annual Paper Clover fundraising campaign at Tractor Supply. This spring, the campaign reached a major milestone – raising $20M for 4-H’ers since 2010.

As a thank you to Tractor Supply for their longstanding partnership and commitment to 4-H’ers across the country, we’d like to hear directly from YOU, the youth and adult mentors involved in 4-H.

We are asking you to submit a brief video to say thank you to the Tractor Supply associates and share a testimonial about how the funds raised through Tractor Supply create opportunities for young people.

Videos can feature an individual, or a group thank you. We will be compiling the clips into one video to share with Tractor Supply associates ahead of the Fall 2023 Paper Clover campaign.

Video Testimonial Instructions

Sample Script:

  • Introduce yourself – Name and where you are located.
  • Thank you, Tractor Supply, for your support of 4-H and the Paper Clover Campaign!
  • We use funds raised through Paper Clover to XXXXXX.

The video should be brief, about 15-30 seconds in length. The main message should be the thank you. And please, be yourself and try to have fun with it! (Try to use a conversational tone vs. reading from a script.)

Filming Tips:

  • No fancy equipment needed. You can film using your phone.
  • Keep the phone horizontal while filming. Ideally, use a tripod or rest the phone on a steady surface.
  • Make sure you are in a quiet place – limit the background noise as much as possible.
  • Try to set the phone up so that it’s approximately at eye-level with you. Ideally, your face and shoulders will fill most of the frame without too much blank space around you.
  • Try to make sure you have enough light on your face to be seen clearly. Try to avoid having lights or bright windows behind you as you film—this will create a silhouette effect in the video.

Deadline: August 18, 2023

How to Share your Video:  Please email all completed videos to creininger@fourhcouncil.edu
