2022 4-H Camp Ohio Job Opportunities

Each year, 4-H Camp Ohio hires two 34-week Program Instructors to facilitate their Spring, Summer and Fall groups. These positions are crucial in our organization having a successful year, being able to fulfill the programming needs for our schools and weekend groups, and retaining them (as well as their income) year after year.

We are trying to reach youth/young adults who love Camp! They are asking us to reach out to counselors who have graduated out (18+ years) and share with them this opportunity to work at Camp. Start date is mid March, the end date is mid November.

The job description for “Program Instructor 2022” and online application can be found under the “Employment” tab on our website: https://www.4hcampohio.org/

2021 Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Camp Counselors Needed

Shooting Sports experience is not required to be a camp counselor at shooting sports camp. We just need them to be GREAT camp counselors. For Junior Camp, we follow the 14 as of Jan. 1st guidelines. For Senior Camp, we ask that they be 18 as of Jan. 1st, which is a great opportunity for alumni who you would like to recruit back into your county program as volunteers or those camp counselors who just want to keep going to camp! This might be a great option for those who aged out last year and didn’t get that last year at camp.

How does this work? They will apply online via Qualtrics and it is explained in the application they need to communicate with their county 4-H professional about training; they even have to sign off specifically on this. I will then follow-up with you on different points. One to let you know they applied, two to get a reference, and three to confirm they have completed the training to your satisfaction. Would you let them be a camp counselor for you? Yes? GREAT!  Then they come into camp the night before campers and I do some onsite training with them. For alumni, they will need to go through the volunteer process in addition to applying to be a counselor, and completing additional training requirements to serve in this role.

The direct link to the counselor application is: http://go.osu.edu/shootingsportscounselor

The application can also be found on the state website here: https://ohio4h.org/families/members/events-opportunties/shooting-sports/4-h-shooting-ed-camp

The deadline to apply is March 1st!

Camps are held at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp and are scheduled for:

Junior Shooting Sports: June 25-27 (counselors arrive evening of the 24)

Senior Shooting Sports: July 18-23 (counselors arrive evening of the 17)

Virtual State 4-H Horse Advisor Training

I wanted to reach out and remind everyone that this year’s State 4-H Horse Advisor/Volunteer Training will be held virtually via OSU Scarlet. Modules of content to explore will be open from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28 through 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31.  There will also be an optional Q&A Zoom meeting Saturday, January 30 from 10-12 pm. We are excited to say that there are many new changes to the Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows and are encouraging our extension professionals to reach out to your county horse committees and ask them to participate online to become more aware of what those changes look like. Mainly the advent of new scoring systems for pattern classes and the expansion of our ranch horse division to now include a separate showmanship and horsemanship class. Registration is required, although there is no cost to participate. Information can be found online at https://ohio4h.org/events/virtual-state-4-h-horse-advisorvolunteer-training-session including an event schedule. Please share with all your equine advisors and volunteers. Extension professionals are also welcomed. If you have any questions, please email cole.436@osu.edu or stutzman.34@osu.edu

Best,

Duane
