2020 Changes to Pheasants Forever 12th Annual Youth Day

Dear Partners & Friends,

As you are all aware due to COVID 19, the Knox County Pheasants Forever Chapter #616 canceled our 12th Annual Youth Day that was to be held on April 4, 2020.  A reschedule date, of August 15 was selected with the hope that we should delay the date far enough into the future, we could therefore salvage a portion of our program. It is with regret that I inform you that the Chapter has met and due to the continued restrictions for group gatherings, sanitation guidelines and our overall concern for the health of all involved, the decision was made to cancel holding our “traditional” Youth Day. Since the focus of our Youth Day has always been based on actual hands on activities and participation, we are not willing to compromise our goals by making this a virtual event. Instead we plan to peruse the inventory we have and package it into kits complete with directions for distribution. At this time distribution will be staged as a “drive through” to take place on the rescheduled date of August 15 at: Knox SWCD, 160 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon OH 43050. Starting time is 9:00 am and would continue while supplies last. “One kit per youngster age 3 – 17 in the vehicle.”

We appreciate and value everyone who partners with us and the role you play in making our event the huge success it has become. What can you do regarding this latest change? We would welcome donations for the kits. The kits will be given in cloth reusable bags. While we have had some cloth bags donated, we can use more. Cloth bags are a great opportunity to advertise and promote conservation. If you had items to hand out for the original April 4th date or were planning ahead for August 15th, and would like to include them, they would be welcome. In addition to purging our current inventory of “make it – take it” items, we are also looking to include Fall outdoor activities. Please contact me at: addbaskets@gmail.com or 740- 358-1632 to arrange a pickup, drop off, make suggestions or ask questions. Our chapter will handle bagging and distribution.

Our sincerest thanks for your continuing partnership! We are looking forward to and are planning to hold our 13th Annual Youth Day on April 10, 2021. We hope we can count you!

With Warm Regards,
Althea

FairEntry Information

So after many bumps in the road, the FairEntry system is finally open.  Your families can go to www.fairentry.com and start the process of making entries to be able to exhibit their market animals at the 2020 Knox County Junior Fair.  Attached you will see a video from Samantha that will help to navigate the process and also a help sheet.

We know that there are many questions that surround the FairEntry process.  We have composed some questions and answers to hopefully address those topics for you.

I have added my animals, uploaded pictures and tag information into 4HOnline for my market animals.  My entries are done, correct?

No, they are not.  Adding this information into 4HOnline was mandatory for market goats, market lambs, market hogs (or turn in the paperwork) and beef feeders this year because those animals did not have a county-wide tagging.  Adding information for your other market animals in 4HOnline was voluntary but will prove to be beneficial for you.  All of this information will roll over to the FairEntry system.  So you do not have to add specific animal information.  You will select specify animals later for each entry.

Do we have to add our animal’s tag information to FairEntry?

No, you do not have to do add animal tag information.

How do I log into FairEntry?

You will go to https://www.fairentry.com/ and click on “Find Your Fair”.  You can put Knox County in the search by keyword and filter by state……Ohio.  2020 Knox County Junior Fair should pop up.  If you have a 4HOnline account, you can log in with that information.  If you are FFA only and have set up a FairEntry account, you can log in with that information.  If you are new to the system and FFA only, you can set up a FairEntry account at this step.

What if I have issues logging in?

If you can’t remember your password with 4HOnline, you can reset your password.  If you are having problems logging on as an FFA member, please contact Andrea at 740-627-1374 or Samantha at 740-751-9545.

What if I am a FFA member only?

If you were an FFA member last year, you should have an account already set up and you will log in with that information.  If you are a new FFA member, you will need to set up a new account in FairEntry.

What if I am a 4-H member and FFA member?

Log-in through 4HOnline and then we can adjust your projects after entries with those that are being exhibited through 4-H versus FFA.

After I hit submit, can I go back in and make changes?

No, you are not able to make adjustments after they are submitted.  If you know that you have changes, you can contact us to make those adjustments.  You can also wait until Monday, June 29 from 1 to 6 p.m. to come in and check your entries to make any necessary changes, drop animal projects, or just do a general review.

How long do I have to complete my entries?

Entries will be open from today through Saturday, June 27 at Midnight.

Will I receive a confirmation after I complete my entries?

Yes, you should receive an email stating that you have completed the entry process.

Do I have to enter my breeding projects even though those animals are not being exhibited at the fair but I am still planning on participating in book judging?

No, you do not have to enter breeding projects just to attend livestock interview judging.

Do I sign up for showmanship and skillathon?

No, due to the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Governor, we are not going to have showmanship or skillathon competitions for any specie this year.

Does this step have to be done?

Yes, if you would like to exhibit your market animal at the 2020 Knox County Junior Fair.

2020 Hartford Fair Information

From the Licking County OSU Extension Office:

I’m happy to let you know that the essentials that you need, in order to complete your fair entries, are now posted to the Hartford Fair website! It’s time to get to work on those 2020 Hartford Fair entry forms, as they are to be submitted to the Fair Office by no later than June 27th. We ask that you maintain contact with your 4-H Club Advisor, as they will have additional details for you, and will have a date by which they need to receive your entries… Your 4-H Club Advisor will then schedule an appointment with Beth Rowley at the Fair Office (that must take place prior to June 27th @ 5:00 p.m.), in order to submit all entries from their club together. Club appointments are being strongly encouraged as a way to reduce the number of people delivering entries to the fair office over the coming days.

Keep in mind that entries can be submitted in person, by mail, dropped off to the Fair Office’s drop slot in the door, or by email (with prior approval, and credit card payment). Should you need to schedule an appointment or make special arrangements, please feel free to reach out Beth Rowley at the Fair Office by emailing browley@hartfordfair.com, or calling 740.893.4881.

You will want to visit the Hartford Fair website: www.hartfordfair.com.

Once on the website, please use the “FORMS” tab for find all the materials that you need for entries. You will find several items there that will be of importance… (see graphic below for reference)

  • 2020 Junior Fair Entry Forms: Please be aware that there are different entry form for different projects…
    • Junior Fair NON-MARKET LIVESTOCK Entry: Dairy, Breeding Beef, Breeding Sheep, Non-Market Goats, Horse & Pony, Dog, Non-Market Poultry, Non-Market Rabbits, and Llama/Alpaca.
    • Junior Fair MARKET LIVERSTOCK Entry: Market Beef, Dairy Feeder, Steer Pool, Market Hog, Market Lamb, Market Goat, Meat Poultry and Meat Rabbits.
    • Junior Fair EQUINE Entry: Entry to specify classes, must also be accompanied by a NON-MARKET LIVESTOCK Entry form. A separate form must be submitted for each horse / pony.
    • Junior Fair STILL PROJECT Entry: This is used for any non-livestock 4-H entry (clothing, foods, and special interest projects) that will be on display within the 4-H Center throughout the fair. (Note: Also used for Scout, FFA and Industrial Arts projects.) 4-H members are encouraged to speak with their club advisor when completing this form, to determine if their club is doing a booth – or the entry will be as an individual.
    • Junior Fair BOOTH Entry: This form is used by 4-H Club Advisors who wish to have a Club Booth in the 4-H Center during the fair.
  • 2020 Junior Fair Entry Information (under header 2020 Entry Purposes ONLY)…
    • This is the Junior Fair section of the Premium Book, with scheduling details removed. This will have all the information needed (department, class, lot, etc.) in order to complete entry forms for Junior Fair entries.
  • If you are planning to submit Open Class Entries…
    • Please realize that the Open Class Livestock Form, and 2020 Open Class Entry Information (Premium Book materials, with scheduling details removed), are also posted on the Hartford Fair FORMS page. Open class entries are also due June 27th.

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • Please be sure that entry forms are COMPLETE and ACCURATE – including all SIGNATURES.
  • You are encouraged to KEEP A COPY for your own records.
  • Complete a separate form for EACH DEPARTMENT – no entry form can have more than one department’s entries listed… Think of this way: when the forms are processed, they are separated in to stacks, by DEPARTMENT. If you have Market Steer and Dairy Feeder entries, they use the same document, but they must be submitted on two different copies of the form – as they will be in two different stacks for processing. With that said, if you have four Dairy Feeders to enter, they can all be on the same form, as they are all in the same department.
  • The Junior Fair entry fee is $3 per 4-H or FFA member, per club/chapter. If they submit entries from only one 4-H club, the fee is $3. If they submit entries from a 4-H club and an FFA chapter, the fee would be $6 total.
  • Sometime around July 10th, the Fair Office will distribute by mail a VERIFICATION FORM to each individual submitting an entry. Be watching for that verification, and check over it carefully. You will have until July 18th to make corrections. If you don’t receive the verification form by July 15th or 16th, be sure to reach out to the Fair Office to ask for details – as it could have been lost in the mail, or there has been a mistake in your address. You only have until July 18th to make changes…
  • Between June 28th and July 18th, late entries can be submitted, or changes in entries can be made. There is a $10 charge for late entries, per entry, but it provides you with option in case you forget something…
  • If you’re address has changed since 4-H enrollment in the spring, please contact Adrienne Anderson (anderson.1410@osu.edu) with changes… The Fair Office uses the address in your official enrollment file for verification forms and fair checks, and will not make address changes for you – that must be done through contacting Adrienne.
  • You will find that these is no Dorm Application included in entry materials in 2020. The dorms are no longer available as an overnight option to exhibitors…

As always, please be sure to contact us should you have questions…

Yours in 4-H,

Lisa

Current 4-H & Junior Fair Updates (06/06/2020)

Please see a few updates below that pertain to 4-H and Junior Fair:

Adding Animals to 4HOnline and FairEntry

We know that some of you and your 4-H members have been experiencing difficulties with adding animals to the 4HOnline profiles today.  Because there was an issue (which is now resolved) and we do not want to cause unnecessary stress to anyone during already stressful times, we are going to allow an extension with getting animals input into 4HOnline through Monday at 12 Noon.  We will then do a roll over in the system Monday afternoon to FairEntry.  On Tuesday (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), we are holding an in-person help session for FairEntry and work out any kinks we may see and open it to everyone on Wednesday morning.  We are wanting to make this as seamless as possible and with all of the bumps in the road it unfortunately has delayed us again slightly.

Miscellaneous/Food & Nutrition/Rocket/Clothing Judging

Jana is still moving forward with a face to face judging on Wednesday, July 15 for these projects.  This year there will be no displays in the booth building.  But as long as members have their project judged on July 15 they will receive a premium by mail after the fair.  Your members can also take a home project and take the project again next year without any penalty.

Livestock Interview Judging

This will take place on Monday, July 13 and Monday, July 20 from 1 to 6 p.m.

  • This is mandatory for all market projects that would like to exhibit at the fair this year.
  • Animal breeding projects and horse projects can complete this step (details to follow soon) and will also receive a premium by mail after the fair.

Thank you for your continued support and patience,

Andrea, Jana, and Samantha
