OSU Extension 4-H Camps are Closed for Summer 2020

Ohio State University Extension made the very difficult decision to cancel all in-person 4-H camps through August 31, 2020 to honor and uphold our primary concern – ensuring the health and well-being of our campers, volunteers, professional staff, and other supporters.

This also complies with The Ohio State University’s decision that all university employees, with the exception of essential facilities workers, are to continue teleworking and remain off campus, physical distancing and taking all other precautions to keep our staff and clientele safe. Our physical OSU Extension offices will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Again following university decision, ALL 4-H programs, activities, and events scheduled between now and July 6 must be held virtually, postponed, or cancelled. No in-person programming is allowed. In addition, all 4-H camps through August 31 are cancelled.

We know this is an incredible disappointment, and we recognize how much everyone looks forward to our cherished 4-H summer events – especially 4-H camp. Our 4-H professionals are committed to providing positive youth development programming, and we share our youth and our families’ sense of loss this summer.

Although in-person programming is cancelled, we are offering virtual 4-H experiences; and this does include some virtual camp counselor training. This helps our counselors conduct virtual camps and meetings right now; and it helps develop their workforce readiness, leadership and networking skills for life.

While the intangible parts of camps are happening online this summer, we will resume fundraising efforts this fall for the Tar Hollow Shelter House Project (#raisetheroof) Campaign. Stay tuned for updates!

Our staff and our campers are working hard online and remaining positive; and we appreciate your continued support to help fulfill their visions of a great future. Please contact your local 4-H Professional / OSU Extension Office for 2020 virtual camp options.

The COVID-19 experience has required continual monitoring and adjustment throughout the past few weeks. We appreciate your support of the Ohio 4-H youth development experience for our young people throughout the state in the midst of the ever-evolving “look” of our 4-H program right now and as we make plans for the future.
