About Us

The Ross-Hocking Extension Camping Association provides facilities and conducts business for the benefit of the 4-H Youth Development camping programs of Athens, Fairfield, Pickaway, Ross, and Hocking Counties. The Association rents the resident camping facility in Tar Hollow State Park, hires permanent camp staff who assist with the educational and recreational aspects of camp and run the day-to-day operation of the facility, retains kitchen help who ensure food is safely prepared for all camp attendees, and hosts a multi-county counselor training session.

The Association plans and conducts portions of the 4-H camping programs for 5 counties at Tar Hollow Resident Camp facilities for 6 weeks in the summer, which includes a multi-county counselor training camp. The Association plans the calendar and contracts with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for rental of the Four Hills Resident Camp Facility at Tar Hollow State Park in Laurelville, Ohio.  The Association prepares applications, screens, interviews, and selects the permanent staff members that reside at camp and assist with all camps as well as the hourly kitchen help who staff the kitchen and prepare meals for all camps, including a head cook who plans the menu and purchases food for the season.  The Association conducts other business as needed associated with the general running of a camping program.

Over the span of the five counties’ 4-H camps, over 800 campers and over 375 counselors attended camp at Tar Hollow. Each county hosts their own county 4-H camp. 4-H camp is a great place to spend your summer.  From hanging out with friends, to campfire, canoes, crafts, games and activities, 4-H camp is the place for summertime fun!  Want to find out more about 4-H camp in your county?  Please visit a 4-H website below that corresponds to your county.
