Response Paper and Bullet Points

Looking at the drawings in the stories by the different artists was very interesting. I love the process of drawings and quick sketches by the artists. I like how Daniel Clowes talked about converting alienated teenagers into something creative like showing the darker stories. He also discussed how he felt out of culture and how he used his frustration to make something he likes. I also like how he talks about being frustrated and instead of doing unacceptable things like drugs he tried to draw her frustration and make it into a story for other people who are in the same situation as he was. I also love the work of Pablo Picasso. He is one of my favorite artists. I have never seen his work about world war or storytelling. I like his way of telling the story and how he uses pencil work and value to his simple drawings. It was also interesting to learn about the Japanese art and comic styles ‘manga.’ I remember from Caitlin’s lecture that OSU comic collections have manga comics and I will try to see them too. I like the work of David Wertheim. The interesting thing about his work was how he made violent and disturbing images inspired by social issues. I was also inspired by the work and passion of Misako Rock. I like how she draws from her hand with a pen and not having money, or not going to an art school didn’t keep her back. Nothing stopped her passion for storytelling.
