Problem Areas & Statements

The following problems must satisfy needs of users with one arm or fewer.

Problem 1:

Problem Area: Typing with a Keyboard with one hand.

User Needs: easy to reach all keys, can press one button at a time, quick to use and does not require excessive new training or practice.

Solution Goal: well spaced keys, appropriately sized, uses familiar and versatile method to communicate information.

Problem Statement: A need exists for something that will transmit information from our brain onto a computer.

Problem 2:

Problem Area: Opening Caps/Lids with a missing limb.

User Needs: uncap lip with ease, can recap successfully and properly.

Solution Goal: can work on lids of various materials and sizes, caps properly to prevent leakage, has measure to prevent spills from excessive pressure, is a small enough tool that can fit into an area without disruption.

Problem Statement: A need exists for something that can grant access to a container, as well as seal it shut when finished.

Problem 3:

Problem Area: Putting on Bedsheets with one arm.

User Needs: can put on bedsheet without exhaustion, is easy to clean, is secure in place.

Solution Goal: provides full coverage to mattress, feels soft and comfortable, protects mattress from contaminants, does not move out of place unless on purpose.

Problem Statement: A need exists for something that can prepare a mattress for use, protecting it from spills, odors, contaminants, and provide soft comfort to the user.

Problem 4:

Problem Area: Fingernail Hygiene – Clipping and Painting Nails with a missing hand.

User Needs: clean cut, reduce fingernail size successfully, ease of use in terms of strength, clean paint strokes, easy to open top.

Solution Goal: can reach every finger, does not require use of hand, gives even shape with no injuries.

Problem Statement: A need exists for something that can remove excess fingernail matter, as well as apply polish to said nails.
