Problem Definition Reflection:

Defining our problems and eventually the problem we want to pursue was a lot more complicated than we anticipated. Even from our research, the bedroom did not provide a lot of variety in problems, as most of what we found dealt with tying and folding tasks. Creating our persona was difficult because of how open-ended the task was. Determining what was relevant information in creating our person was a toss-up as it was hard to see what was really important and what would be unnecessary. The mindmap was very useful in putting our problems in a more organized fashion. We could think of two really glaring issues as we found with tying and folding, but having to come up with more problem areas was difficult without being too specific for a particular task. We wanted to jump the gun on some problem areas and be very specific, so it was complicated to hold back and understand the more general problems. In the same sense, trying to create general solution goals was difficult because we could only think of what our solutions would be, instead of a birds-eye view of what we could solve. Likewise, It was difficult to create problem statements that were not narrow-minded and limiting to our innovation. We were able to address what a user wants without being too specific. This step did allow us to digest our research into a few general areas that were present among most tasks. We need to be patient and allow ourselves to think outside the box and know there are multiple solutions that exist to solve our problems. The bedroom, as we have found out, is a complicated room to assess, as there were fewer tasks than expected that do not already have immediate solutions. There is still room for us to take advantage of opportunities, but we feel we could have had more opportunities with another room.
