Meet Stephanie, a 26 year old PhD candidate in Astrophysics at the University of Minnesota. She grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota with 2 brothers and a sister, and moved to twin cities for grad school and now lives with her cute lil pup, Lardo. Stephanie’s arm had to be amputated a couple of ears ago when she got infected with flesh eating bacteria during a boating accident.
Stephanie got a dog after the boating accident as a means of a supporting mechanism- Lardo also is missing an arm, and has been her emotional support as she tried to get back into her normal routine. She likes to take Lardo to play at the park and travel- to try and do what she didn’t have the courage to do before she lost her arm.
Stephanie initially found the whole process of retraining herself to do things with one arm, but now wants to put the past behind her. It is frustrating for her at times that her day to day tasks take much longer than before, and that certain things like tying shoes and hair can be a little challenging.
