Research Interest:
My research focuses on hydrology, specifically infiltration of water in unsaturated soil, or the vadose zone. The research is performed in a greenhouse and utilizes tanks and moisture probes monitor and study subsurface conditions. We hope to find a better understanding and a better way to model the pattern of flow through soil. We also hope to study plant, specifically root, interaction with the moisture and nutrient conditions of the soil. We want to gain an understanding of how much, if at all, plants are able to react, adapt, or anticipate changes in subsurface conditions. The experiments will also answer questions about plant and root interactions with other plants. For more information on the greenhouse and subsequent experimentation, see the Greenhouse Setup Page.
