Artifact: Trip to Toronto

Experience:

This artifact represents my trip to Toronto with my scholars group over fall break 2016. We went to Toronto for four days and explored the city while also doing some educational tours to the Casa Lama Castle, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Aga Khan Museum. In addition to these formal tours we also were given the opportunity to explore Yorkville, Kensington Market, and the CN Tower on our own.

This trip allowed me to learn more about the city of Toronto. By then end of the trip I had a pretty good idea of how to navigate the city without the need to use google maps on my iPhone. This was something that surprised me because I have never had to navigate a new place without the help of technology. This experience allowed me to realize my navigational abilities as well as how to ask for help from locals. The planned activity that allowed me to learn the most was when we visited the Aga Khan Museum. The Aga Khan Musuem is a museum of Islamic art, Persian Art, and Muslim culture. I was able to learn a lot about architecture of the musuem as well as about the Muslim faith. Previous to this experience I have had limited opportunity to learn about the Muslim faith so this was a new and eye-opening experience for me,

I will use what I learned from this experience, especially navigating, on my next adventure to a new or foreign place. I will use my experience of learning about the Muslim faith to learn more about other faiths and cultures. Lastly, I will try and be more open-minded in trying new things and going to new places without the comfort of my parents or technology.
