Holly Baselice, MPH, CPH; Project Coordinator

 Holly received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of North Texas and her Master of Public Health, with a concentration in Epidemiology, from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. As a Project Coordinator, she is looking forward to helping with health outcome innovation research and serving as a backbone staff member of SHARP.

Lindsay Breslin; Project Coordinator

Lindsay recently received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from The Ohio State University.  While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Lindsay actively engaged in a variety of healthcare spaces in her roles as a student assistant at The Ohio State University Wexner Center information desk, volunteering at the James Cancer Hospital Solove Research Institute and working in her hometown as a Patient Food Associate at Miami Valley Hospital.  In her role as a Project Coordinator for SHARP, Lindsay looks forward to using her background in the social sciences to continue fostering the growth of interdisciplinary medicinal research.

Austin Cech; Project Manager

Austin is a project manager for the Cardiac Surgery Division with a background in public health and health education research. She received her Bachelors of Science in Public Health, Sociology from The Ohio State University. After graduation, Austin worked for a statewide Komen grant, was a team member with Hospice and Palliative Care Research and Education, and most recently worked in an academic research advancing investigator-initiated research in a healthcare setting.  As her role in SHARP and Cardiac Surgery develops, Austin is looking forward to work on a team researching prevention methods, long-term outcomes of patients, and ways to increase their quality of life.

Anand Gupta, MBBS, MPH; Research Scientist

Anand earned his Bachelor in Medicine & Surgery from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, India. He started his career as a Medical officer with P. D. Hinduja Hospital in the underserved regions of India and then the tertiary care hospital of Mumbai.  The drastic difference in the severity of infections, especially in terms of antibiotic resistance, in the rural and urban areas sparked his interest in public health initiatives and research needed in this field. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Master of Public Health and collaborated on multiple bio-statistical research projects with large datasets. Bio-statistical support for the CDC grant for ELC-2 at the Houston Health Department for reportable infectious diseases exposed him to the application of large dataset analysis in public health. He then moved to Ohio to work with OhioHealth Research Institute and was the lead biostatistician for various clinical studies, quality improvement studies and public health studies. Anand is currently working with the AHSQC, foregut, and other surgical studies has a key interest in infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance and quality improvement measures for surgical health outcomes.

Victor Heh, PhD; Senior Biostatistician

Victor is a Senior Biostatistics for SHARP. In his previous research support and teaching role at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine, he was quantitative research methodologist, instructor, psychometrician, and program evaluator consulting in areas of biomedical/medical research, health services research, social and behavioral health research, and epidemiologic research among others; involving research design, program evaluation and assessment, grant development, statistical modeling and estimation. He provided research design and data analytics support to clinicians, fellows, residents, and medical students across numerous health centers and hospitals and medical schools across Ohio, including Grandview Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, and University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Victor is an expert in and taught statistical analysis techniques using latent variables. He is proficient in using Mplus, SAS, SPSS, and  R.

Madison Hyer; Senior Biostatician

Madison Hyer is a Senior Biostatistician in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He received his Masters of Science in Biostatistics from the Medical College of Georgia where he received an award from SAS for a white paper submitted to SAS Global Forum. He then held a faculty appointment in Charleston, SC for several years in the Department of Public Health Sciences, Division of Biostatistics. There, Madison was a co-investigator on multiple R01s, a P30 center grant, and a UL1 CTSA grant from the NIH. In 2018 he moved to Columbus, OH to work as the Senior Biostatistician in Dr. Timothy Pawlik’s research lab. While here, he has been the lead statistician on dozens of projects that resulted in manuscripts. Additionally, he has first authored work accepted to the American Surgical Association and has published work in JAMA Surgery and Annals of Surgery.

Sandy Lee; Clinical Research Assistant

Sandy recently received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The Ohio State University. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Sandy was a research fellow for LiFEsports and assisted with projects related to sports-based positive youth development within the College of Social Work. She also volunteered at the Asian Free Clinic, helping to provide primary care services for uninsured, low-income individuals. She is passionate about public health, advocacy, and health equity. She is excited to be a part of SHARP to explore surgical health services and outcomes research!

Yaming Li; Data Analyst

Yaming Li is a Senior Consulting Research Statistician in the Division of Surgical Oncology, who helps clinical data management and statistical analysis.

After graduating wither her Master’s from the Department of Biostatistics, University of Pittsburgh, Yaming worked as a Biostatistician in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Pittsburgh. Her main roles were to identify, develop and implement novel statistical methodologies in support of the medical field; to work with the clinical teams in designing clinical studies, conducting the statistical analyses, and providing statistical support for the clinical study reports, scientific presentations and manuscripts.

Yaming has detailed knowledge of statistical methodologies, and is proficient with Stata, R and SAS.

Christina Monsour; Project Coordinator

Christina received her Bachelors of Science in Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Christina interned at the Women’s Health Department at Gunderson Health Systems. She started her career as a project coordinator at Pierce County Health Department, where her main goal was to enhance elementary school physical activity in 10 nearby school districts through a grant funded program. Christina continued her grant funding practices and worked as a program manager for the Colon Cancer Coalition 401c3, where she planned national events to raise money to support local cancer survivors and colon rectal programs. Since her move to Columbus, she continued to pursue health and wellness as a yoga instructor at CorePower Yoga. She is excited to join the SHARP team to explore multidisciplinary collaboration of medical research at a prestigious level.

Crystal Phommasathit; Project Manager

Crystal Phommasathit is a Project Manager for Dr. Clara Lee, who is a plastic surgeon and decision scientist. Crystal supports Dr. Lee’s studies which try to understand and improve how patients and their providers make decisions about cancer surgery, with a specific focus on breast cancer patients. After spending nearly five years with the Ohio Department of Health, Crystal started working on a research project that applied the principles of community-engaged research to understanding and addressing cancer health disparities, focusing on cervical cancer prevention and cancer screening in a refugee and immigrant population. Her time on the project sparked an interest in research and desire to continue working in the community. She made the leap to OSU as a Grants Manager at the Comprehensive Cancer Center before starting as a project manager.  Crystal appreciates the dynamic setting SHARP has to offer.  Crystal holds a B.S. in Health Promotion and Education (Public & Community Health).

Savannah Renshaw; Project Coordinator

Savannah received her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from The Ohio State University with a specialization in Sociology and Social Stratification. After graduation, she joined SHARP as a project coordinator working with the division of General & GI surgery. In this role, she manages the division’s involvement in a national quality improvement initiative and oversees a variety of retrospective and prospective research studies. Savannah is interested in helping clinicians leverage the resources available at Ohio State to study health disparities and clinical outcomes, as well as developing innovative ways to improve the lives of surgical patients.

Angie Sarna; Project Coordinator

Angie received her Bachelors of Science degree in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University, where she also worked in the chemistry lab at University Hospitals, and on a HIV study with research in the College of Medicine.  She has previously worked at multiple private laboratories as a lead medical technologist, until switching to clinical research.  In a primary care clinic, with Delaware Research Group, she worked as a clinical research coordinator, with the Principal investigator and Sub-investigators, on sponsor-initiated studies for diabetes, weight loss, COPD, gout and hypertension. More recently, she has worked with the HPB surgeons in Surgical Oncology, on studies for pancreas diseases and cancers.  Drawing from her experiences in clinics, she brings forth a perspective on effective patient compliance and study design.

Chengli Shen, MS, PhD; Research Scientist

Chengli Shen, PhD, MD, is a Research Scientist in the Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He has collaborated extensively with clinical and biological research investigators and taken leadership roles in biostatistics and biomedical research studies oversight of program project awards including R01, U19, U01, R25. He has over 30 peer-reviewed publications as author /corresponding author/co-author/ in liver, transplantation, kidney, cancer and infectious diseases. He also experts in machine learning, data mining and bioinformatics, such as clustering, classification, bulk RNA sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing, viral origin and evolution analysis etc.

Robert Tamer, MPH, MPA; Senior Biostatistician

Robert began his career in the field of data analysis at the University of Miami, School of Medicine. He returned to school, earning both his Master of Public Health and Master of Public Administration from the University of Miami.  He continued his career as a Biostatistician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, then a Statistical Research Analyst at Kaiser Permanente, and is currently a Senior Biostatistician at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.  Robert has worked in numerous areas including stroke, psychology, and orthopedics.  He has also worked extensively with very large datasets including electronic health records.  Robert excels at data management, SAS programming, and statistical analysis.

Jess Wiseman; Clinical Research Coordinator

Jess is a research coordinator for orthopaedic trauma with a background in biology, international studies, and psychology. She has over ten years of experience in benchtop and clinical research, and her interests and strengths center around projects that seek to effect meaningful and measurable change for individuals and populations with consideration of sociodemographic and environmental factors. Jess appreciates the opportunity brought by SHARP to work with other research professionals who are motivated to influence positive changes in patient care and their communities.
